Danish Volunteers Paint Dead Piglets Outside the Ministry of Environment and Food

Dozens of Greenpeace activists painted dead piglets outside the Environment and Food Ministry to send a message to Minister Esben Lunde Larsen (V) to cut down on Denmark’s extensive meat production. Denmark is one of the world’s largest producers of pork and as a country with high meat production, the animal agriculture industry puts the environment, animal welfare and the climate under immense pressure.

Pigs and cows account for 18.2% of Denmark’s total greenhouse gas emissions. On average, Danish agriculture destroys 1,000 piglets per hour as a direct consequence of the pork stock being produced for intensive large-scale operations. A Danish industrial sow receives on average 18 piglets per litter, but is only able to take care of approximately 12. Therefore, every fifth piglet dies before it is four weeks old.
